5 Reasons Why Firefox Should Be Your Preferred Browser

By: Michael Primius

Almost everybody in the computing industry agrees that Firefox has better support for standards than Internet Explorer. This means that web pages created using those standards will be shown exactly the same way in different browsers.

Instead of stuffing many features into the product, Firefox was built with a solid foundation and has the ability to get new functionality in the form of "plug-ins", which are installed by users when they need them.

There are many reasons to use Firefox, but these are the most important:

1. Microsoft seems to have a wicked plan. Internet Explorer added many features that weren't in the standards specification of the W3C consortium. When web developers began using those "features", web pages started to look bad in browsers that don't support those non-standard "features". Average users thought that Internet Explorer was the best browser because of this.

2. Improvement doesn't stop when they win. When Internet Explorer began his life in 1,995 nobody expected that it would threat the dominant position of Netcape, which had more than 90% market share. Microsoft worked very hard on Explorer, adding more and more features (and creating serious security risks because of the very fast developments) every year and suddenly, all developments stopped in 2,001 with Internet Explorer 6.0, till recently. This shows that Microsoft only moves when they are at risk.

3. Firefox is secure. Internet Explorer has many known security issues (some could be fixed, some not) that allows the execution of unknown programs in your PC. Other browsers don't have these problems. Even the CERT (the US Computer Emergency Response Team) advised people to use a different browser other than Internet Explorer. 4. Mozilla develops more solutions. The Mozilla Foundation is not worried about market share and develops useful programs as free Open Source, meaning that everybody could look at the source could if they wish. Not only they developed Firefox, but also, Thunderbird (to read email) NVU (a program to edit Web Pages) and many other excellent and useful software.

5. Firefox is open source. Nobody knows what is running inside Internet Explorer, but you can ask any good programmer to explain what the code is doing in Firefox, line by line because the source is open to all people. Maybe this may not affect you, but who knows when Microsoft could be using this for his own advantage.

While all this reasons are important, you should be using Firefox primarily because it is more secure and provides a better browsing experience than Internet Explorer. Maybe Microsoft will redesign or rewrite completely Internet Explorer in some future to be a more stable, but you can wait or start using a superior product that gets better every day, immediately. Download Firefox and feel the difference now.
