Gaining Muscle - What You Need to Know

By: Idonea Caris

Muscles: Many men would love to them (or at least noticeable muscles!), and their ladies would too. But no matter why you're interested in gaining muscles, and regardless of your lifestyle, you can still achieve this.

To get you started on the right track, here are some useful tips.

Proper Nutrition: You need to consume the right kinds of foods and drink. That means paying attention to the type and quality of everything you're eating. If you don't do this, building muscles is just about impossible. You need to start consuming more calories than you're actually burning.

Beginners can do it on calorie deficit. However, if you are an intermediate or advanced body builder, you will need to take in more calories than can be burned every single day.

Abstain from alcoholic drinks, because then you won't run the risk of messing up or damaging your internal organs while you're working out.

What kind of food should your body be processing? Well, primarily you need to focus on both complex and simple carbohydrates such as potatoes and oats. You could also eat lean proteins like fish, chicken breast, and low-fat milk. Then there are vitamins as well as both essential and non-essential fats.

In other words, make sure you keep a strong balanced diet if you want to move ahead with this.

Compound Exercises: You want to work different sets of muscles by doing compound exercises. Adding this to your day-to-day routine is very important to gaining muscles.

These include bent or barbell rows, dead-lifts, squats, etc. These exercises involve the use of more than one muscle group which ensures that there will be even development of the body.

Proper Rest: The old saying "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" is especially true when you are on the path of body building. You have to give you body adequate time to rest and absorb the effects of the exercises that you are involved in.

Without this, you may run into risks of exposing your body to serious shock which may render it unable to develop your muscles as you would have loved to. A good night's sleep and proper time off after a tough day at the gym will go a long way in helping them develop properly.

Maintain a Training Log: Proper planning is what this is all about. You should keep a proper record of what exercises you did, reps you completed date and time of each, and how you felt before and after each workout.

Continuous Improvement: Whatever you do, try to improve every time on your previous efforts. This may be as little as one rep every workout. Just try and move ahead in your muscle building efforts.
