Hi Tech Gifts For Mother's Day

By: Louie Lucillio

A lot of people experience mental blocks when they think about what to buy Mom for Mother's Day. They tend to get her the same sort of things year in and year out. such as flowers or candy. Now, there's nothing wrong with flowers or candy, but has it ever dawned on you that Mom's just a tad bit sick of of getting the same old same old every year? Well, if not, consider this article a wake up call. (Not for nothing am I America's most celebrated holiday e-book author!) Yes, this year, let's try something different. How about a nice electronic present for Mom? And don't worry, man; you can trust me when it comes to gifts for Mom, because I live in my Mom's basement! Here are some great ideas.

1. Get her an iPod or other mp3 player. Everyone wants their mom to be "hip" and "with it", and if your wife or mother doesn't have her own mp3 player, such as an iPod, she's the furthest thing from being "hip" or "with it". In fact, shel going to be at the bottom of the totem pole socially. Is that the life you want for your wife or mother? Not getting invited to the "right" parties? Being an outcast? Of course not. So, if you love your Mom, and she doesn't have an mp3 player, get her one for Mother's Day. She'll be one of the beautiful people in no time!

2. HDTV. Can you imagine anything more unpleasant than seeing your Mom rioting in the street in the Year of Our Lord 2009? I certainly can't. And, yet, you may very well drive her to rioting in the streets. How? I'll tell ya how. By not making sure her TV reception doesn't come to a screeching halt in early 2009. Because the federal government has ordered all TV stations to switch from analog to digital broadcasts by then, and when the switch happens, old TV sets won't be able to pick up the new digital programs. So get Mom a new HDTV or a converter for her old set. Keep her off the streets.

3. Get her a satellite radio receiver. Now, granted, this may not apply to your wife or mother. Maybe she's reallly, really into mariachi music and commercials in Spanish, which is what about half the stations around here play these days. Hey, if that's your old lady, that's great. Or maybe she gets off on three solid hours of Sean, Rush, O'Reilly or Savage ranting and raving, complete with foam dripping out of the corners of the car radio. That's cool, too. Or maybe she's just a huge fan of music meant for teenage girls or wannabe gangstas. Hey, to each her own. But if your Mom's halfway normal, there isn't much for her on local radio. So get her a receiver and subscription to XM or Sirius, and she can listen to what she wants, when she wants.

4. New computer. Unless your Mom's Amish or Mennonite, she probably already has a computer. But there's a strong probability that it's outdated. If not, great. But if that's the case, why not get Mom a brand new set up? They get cheaper and better every year, and Mother's Day is a great time to get your own Mom the very latest - a much faster computer with lots more memory and storage. Think she'd like that? I bet she would. (If not, you can always get me one.) Or maybe she's got a nice 'puter, but she still has one of those monitors from the Dark Ages? Then get her a nice flat screen!

5. Home Stereo. All technology is constantly getting better and cheaper, and home music systems are no exception. But even more surprising is how little space a nice sound system takes up these days. it wasn't that long ago that if you wanted a good sound system you needed a rack full of expensive components and a couple of really huge speakers. But not anymore. Tiny little bookshelf systems can now produced the very same high quality sound reproduction, and you can also get them complete with mp3 hookup. If Mom's a music lover, a nice home stereo would make a great Mother's Day present.

6. Hi tech camera. If I had to bet, I'd bet that your Mom has at least one kid? Right? (I usually am...you don't become America's best loved ebook authors by not having a nose for the facts.) And it's a safe bet that she loves to take pictures of he kids, right? (Well, except for my Mom, but that's another story.) Then what would make a better Mother's Day present than a brand new digital camera? If she's never had one, she'll be amazed at how wonderful they are. if she's already got one, she could probably use a newer one. Prices have really come down the past few years, and you could get her a really nice camera for just a few bucks.

7. Gourmet coffee machine. Is your wife or mother a big customer of these fancy coffee shops that are springing up everywhere these days? And I do mean everywhere - some churches now have Starbucks! They're taking over the planet! (Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to see one the next time I visit the county probation office.) No doubt these shops make great coffee. But with a gourmet coffee machine of her own, your wife or mother could do the very same thing at home for a lot cheaper. You can find these machines at wholesale clubs, specialty stores, online sites, etc.
