Holiday Flowers

By: Howard Brule

Every room or event can benefit from the addition of a fine floral arrangement. Poinsettias for Christmas and red roses for Valentine's Day are examples of flowers for different holidays that have become established by tradition, but you are not limited to the traditional holiday flower choices. Give your imagination a chance, and come up with something new.

When floral arrangements are used to create a festive atmosphere for parties, open houses, or family homes, they will enhance any decor and help create a holiday mood. During the holiday season many people opt for flowers and plants that will stay looking nice for a longer period of time, such as live plants instead of cut flowers. This practice will help you save money and time in not having to replace flower arrangements before the holidays actually arrive. Another popular choice is to use long-lasting green choices in floral displays.

Flower arrangements don't need to just be greenery and flower stems arranged in a vase, but can be in all sort of unique containers, or can even be masses of live plants arranged in pleasing displays. Adding evergreens for Christmas makes almost any arrangement match the seasonal theme, for example, and putting it all in a toy sled would be charming.

Some people love to express their own style and creativity by doing flower arrangements themselves. Or, if money is not an issue, your florist can produce a stunning and appropriate arrangement for you. If you are a do it yourself type, then you can use online floral websites to search for ideas you would like to use in your own home.

Growing your own garden of flowers, ferns and other greenery provides you with the least expensive source for floral arrangements. When designing your own flower arrangements then, the first place you'll be able to look is in your own back yard. It's also possible to forage for flowers and plants in the open countryside, but you need to ask the property owner first and then avoid picking protected wildflowers and plants.

Arranging flowers for the holidays may become a tradition amongst families as a way to spend more time together. Members of a family may work together on floral project, or assign individuals rooms in which to create their own arrangement as a way to express creativity. The presence of fresh flowers and plants seems to brighten the holidays with joy and an array of colors. To show someone just how much you care, try bringing home a flower arrangement.
