PSP Game Downloads - Things To Consider

By: A R Thompson

Even before you start downloading anything onto your PSP whether it be games, music, videos or movies there are certain things which you will need to take into consideration. If you keep in mind the guidelines we provide in this article when it comes to getting PSP game downloads the task will be that much easier and simpler to complete.

If you can along with buying your PSP it may be wise to purchase a memory stick at the same time. Doing this you will then be able to keep all the files that you download in one place, plus if you want you can also transfer them over to your PC or laptop so that they can be safely stored away and retrieved when required. For someone who is going to be playing a large number of games on their PSP (which is what it was designed for) then they need to get a memory stick with a large memory base. One particular good memory stick which is compatible with the PSP is called the Pro Duo Card.

Next when it comes to actually downloading any games for your PSP on to your PC it is important that you check they are in the correct format. If not then you will find that not only the downloading but installation process will be affected and you will find that you will have to actually download the game again. Therefore it is important that you know what version of firmware (the operating system installed on your PSP) and choose the games that are compatible with that.

When looking at the various different download websites and you have found a game that you want to down load the first thing you should do is check the file. Only ones which end in "PSP" are suitable for you to download. This is important to remember as a number of websites will offer the same program in a number of different formats as they are cater to all the various gaming consoles now available.

Another thing you need to have installed on your PC if you choose to download games here for your PSP is a compression application. This is because a large number of PSP games files will have been compressed in order to save space on the websites database. If you own a Mac you will need to get a program such as Expander whilst for those who are running Windows then WinZip is perfectly adequate for decompressing such files.

After the files have been unzipped inside you will find a folder that contains two files. The first file is the one which you need to install on to your PSP as this is the one that contains the games information and which is the one you will use to play the game with. The other folder has come from the developer of the game and is known as the "read me" file.

But in order for you to actually get the games you have downloaded off of your PC and on to your PSP you need to connect the two together. There are two ways in which the games can be transferred from the PC to the PSP. You can either connect the two together using a USB cable which connects into a USB port on your PC and the USB port on the PSP. Or you can use a memory, which you transfer the files held on to your PC and then plug this into PSP and then move them from the memory stick on to it. But using the cable method you will need to press the home button on your PSP and then go into settings.

Once in the settings menu using the controls on your PSP you need to move down the area on the screen that says "USB Connection" and then press the "X" on your PSP. As soon as this has been done the memory stick inside the PSP connects to your PC and now all that needs to be done is the file in question has to be copied from one to the other. Also when you are doing any PSP game downloads or any other kind of PSP downloads it is important to remember to put them in the folder on your memory stick called "PSP>Game" or "PSP>Movie" or you may find that they do not work correctly.
