A good quality web design has to be able to achieve a number of goals. Most importantly it must have relevant content. The lay out has to be in sync with the content, and consistent through out the web pages. The web site also has to be accessible and easily navigable by the users. The home page or the one that greets the users after clicking the site must be interesting and informative. A home page that does not grab the user’s attentions will be detrimental to the viewing prospects of the entire website.

Good web design means relevant content. There is simply no sense in using impressive graphic arts when the content is not up to par with the design lay out. Clear goals must be set first before considering any web design. The site must have a purpose, and must be able to define the type of audience it is most likely to attract. By knowing the target audience, their preferences can then be assessed and exploited. These preferences will then be the bases as to what information must and may not be included on the site.

A good and well-planned lay out will surely impress the users. But this lay out has to be consistent with the content and the desired theme of the website. The selected color, the graphics, the text must all be one cohesive part of the site. A good web design is one that caters to the preferences of the desired market through careful and intelligent analysis.

The site also has to employ a web design that makes it easy to use and to navigate. There is a big difference between how a site works and how a site looks. Aesthetics is good, and is an indispensable goal in web design, but this not supposed to be a substitute for accessibility. Internet users have short attention spans, and if they do not get what they need in the soonest time possible, they will quickly lose interest and leave. Therefore, the site has to develop a web design that has simple and clear instructions, yet still maintain quality content.

The home page on a web site is vital in attracting more potential views. Hence, an effective web design has to consider making the home page more attractive, but not to the point of excess. The home page should be able to dish out interesting facts and offerings on the site, without giving pressure to the users that they need to make a purchase right on the spot.

By publishing relevant content from one web page to the other, the user will become more interested in exploring the site entirely. When a user does this, this usually means they have an interest in your site. If the user becomes convinced on the site, he will decide on the next step on whether to make a purchase or not. A purchase will generate profits for the web site and the business it is already marketing. If the user does not make a purchase but still remains interested and convinced, that could mean future sales and an advantageous spread by word-of-mouth on the offerings of the particular site. Web design is a crucial part of a site, which if overlooked, could mean the difference between success and failure.
