Safely Moving Vending Machines

By: Robert Farnham

When you are in the vending machine business there are plenty of small issues that can become big problems if you aren't careful. One that fits well into that category is the issue of moving the vending machines. You may have a new location for one and have to transport it. You may be replacing one or even just moving it to a better location if the one you current have isn't working out like you had anticipated.

Unless you are continually buying new vending machines to expand your business, the issue of moving them into a place won't be something you deal with everyday. Perhaps that is why too many vending machine owners fail to see the importance of doing it safely. They may end up hurting themselves in the process or damaging their vending machine. Neither scenario is one you want to see going on for your vending machine business.

It will take at least two people to be able to move one. There are a variety of different tools you can use to make the process easier. A dolly can slip underneath of a vending machine. This device has wheels so you can tip the vending machine back and move it. Make sure you take the time to secure the straps around it for safety as well.

A truck with a bed or even a trailer that is attached to the truck is going to be needed to get the vending machines loaded and unloaded. If you don't have one of your own then you will need to make plans to either rent one or borrow one. A trailer is easier if you can get your hands on one though as they sit lower to the ground then a truck bed does. This reduces the height that you will be required to lift the vending machine.

The perfect option though is a pickup that features a hydraulic lift. You can use the dolly to take the vending machine to the pickup. Then the lift is activated to take the item to the bed without you having to lift it. Make sure you take the time to always secure the vending machine down to the tools as well as to the place where you will be transporting it.

It may be to your advantage to hire a small moving company to transport your vending machine. They will likely have the staff as well as the tools to do the job correctly. Should they end up damaging the vending machine while moving it, they will be liable for the cost of the repairs. Of course you will find that there is an expense associated with this type of service as well.

Never take any chances when it comes to the process of moving your vending machines. You may think you are saving time by doing it yourself but you can end up injured. You may think you are saving time by not strapping the vending machine down but you can ruin it. There is too much money invested in such equipment to take big risks like that.

Moving vending machines to their locations is just another part of the job that you have to take into consideration. There are right ways and wrong ways to accomplish it though. Do all you can to keep everyone safe. Your next focus should be on keeping your vending machine in excellent condition so that it will last you a very long time.
